SAGE Counselling Centre provides a variety of programmes & services for the seniors:

The face-to-face counselling service carried out by the professional counselors provides an avenue for the clients and/or their caregivers & family members to discuss various issues and concerns which include:
  • Intergenerational relationship difficulties
  • Marital conflicts
  • Physical health problems
  • Psychological health issues
  • Loneliness & isolation
  • Stress
Our criteria:
  • Clients who are 50 years old and above
  • No age requirement for caregivers and family members
Our operation hours:
Monday – Friday from 8.30 am – 5.30 pm

The Seniors Helpline is a toll free National Helpline for any person aged 50 years and above to call in or anyone who wants to enquire or talk about issues related to older persons.

Services provided:
  • Tele-counselling
  • Tele-befriending
  • Information & referral to community services for the older persons & caregivers
Confidentiality is maintained.

Operating hours:
The Seniors Helpline operates on weekdays from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm and on Saturday from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. Closed on Sundays and public holidays.
The Centre conducts numerous public educational programmes to reach out to older persons, their caregivers and the general public.

The programmes aim to dispel myths about ageing and to create an awareness and understanding of changes, problems and issues faced by older persons and their caregivers.

  • Experiential workshops
  • Seminars / Forums
  • Outreach activities such as World Mental Health Day, World Alzheimer’s Day, Social worker Day, etc.,
Some of the topics discussed during our public educational talks include:
  • Communicating with older persons
  • Grief and losses
  • Psychological aspects of ageing
  • Normal ageing
  • Financial management for older persons
  • Coping with caring
  • Emotional issues faced by older persons

Expressive therapeutic group work is provided for older persons who may have personal or emotional issues but are unable to express them in words. Older persons facing similar issues will come together to participate in specially arranged art making activities or expressive activities aiming to let them know that they are not the only one whom who are facing the problem.

The group work activities are aimed to:

  • Boost the self-esteem of older persons and enhance their self-awreness
  • Externalize traumatic memory or unfinished developmental or relational issues to relieve internal conflict and provide a means for re-processing the event or issues.
  • Provide a means for re-viewing and re-framing conflicts.
  • Make visible both immediately understood/known self-experience, as well as potential symbolic meaning not yet understood.
The activities also help clients to:
  • reconcile emotional conflicts
  • reduce anxiety
  • build self-awareness
  • solve problems
  • increase self-esteem

SAGE Counselling Centre offers training & supervision for professionals & students undertaking counselling, social work, and art therapy for older persons.

It also offers consultation for other professionals working with issues pertaining to older persons.
